Region Overview
Asia is the largest continent, with a total land area of approximately 17,226,000 square miles, covering about one-third of the Earth's total land surface.

Population is estimated to be 3 billion, 270 million with a 1.4 percent rate of natural increase.

Languages are richly diverse, however, thousands of languages spoken by ethnic tribes have become functionally extinct in the recent past.

Economies include subsistance farming for people in most areas, in contrast to some highly developed economies such as Japan.
